About St. John Animal Clinic
St. John Animal Clinic recognizes the valuable bond between humans and animals and is dedicated to making a difference by providing superior veterinary care through education, communication, and preventative medicine. Our History
St. John Animal Clinic opened its doors in 1970 with Dr. Ferguson and Dr. Jaras from Highland Animal Hospital. In 1972, Dr. David Austin began working at the clinic and eventually purchased it. In 1989, Dr. Lisa Preston joined Dr. Austin and began growing and cultivating the clinic into what we have today: 5 doctors and nearly 40 support staff! Dr. Austin retired in 2009, which allowed Dr. Melissa Buggie and Dr. Christy Cooper to partner with Dr. Preston.
St. John Animal Clinic has gone through a couple of remodels through the years. The latest remodel of St. John Animal Clinic was completed in the winter of 2019. This remodel allowed us to have a cat-only waiting area and exam room, a total of 8 exam rooms, a second surgery suite, a comfort room, and an isolation ward complete with outside entry.
St. John Animal Clinic celebrated 50 years of exemplary service to our clients and patients in 2020. We have been fortunate enough to achieve the honor of NWI Times Best of the Region for the last nine years; we truly appreciate and are humbled by the wonderful clients that voted for us!
Our Culture
We treat each other like family, as some of our staff have been at St. John Animal Clinic since 1972. Some of our clients grew up coming to the clinic with their family pets, and now, as adults, they return with their family pets, and we’re so happy to be part of their lives. Whether a client has been coming for many years or is new to us, we aim to treat your pet as our own.
The doctors and staff at St. John Animal Clinic take pride in providing individualized medicine for our patients. We take the time to learn about our patient’s life and, together with the client, determine what is medically or behaviorally necessary for that patient. The doctors regularly discuss cases with each other and get multiple in-house opinions regarding treatments and radiographs as needed.
St. John Animal Clinic’s culture provides communication, collaboration, and teamwork for our staff, as well as our clients. The staff at St. John Animal Clinic strive for excellence in all areas of our jobs. We earn continuing education (CE) hours yearly and share our knowledge with our teammates and our clients. Our team prides itself on providing our clients with the best support and our patients with the best care.
St. John Animal Clinic became a Fear Free Certified Practice in May 2021. At that time, we were the 5th clinic in Indiana to be certified and one of only 146 clinics in the country to earn this title.
